Rangers looking to continue run of form

Rangers will be looking to continue their pursuit of table leaders Heart of Midlothian this weekend when they take on Dumbarton away from home. Rangers have been inconsistent in the league this season. They have managed just three wins in the last five encounters and it has seen them drop nine points behind the table leaders. Even though they have a game in hand, it is now looking highly unlikely that they may finish in the automatic promotion spots. Ally McCoist set the target of winning the league once again and it would have seen them promoted to the Premier League straightaway.
A nine point advantage feels superior even at this stage in the season. However, McCoist says that his players remain focused at catching Midlothian. Rangers will also have one eye on the midweek League Cup match against Saint Johnstone. One of the main reasons why McCoist is staying positive even after struggling to keep pace with Midlothian is the reaction shown by the team every time they suffer a disappointing result. They managed a resounding 6-1 win over Raith Rovers in the previous league match. This was hugely important for their goal difference, which may have a role to play towards the end of the campaign.
"You're always loath to say so as you can get a swift kick two minutes after saying it. But I'm really pleased and happy with the squad we've got and how they're reacting to the various challenges and competitions. We always knew the quality of opposition this year would be far greater and we wouldn't go through the league like last year. Apart from looking at the league table and not being happy with it - even with a game in hand - we have to say we've been reasonably happy with the reaction to the defeat by Hibs,” said McCoist.
