Rangers Best Defender to Move on

Glasgow Rangers are expected to strike a deal to sell Danny Wilson to Liverpool which will see the defender return to Ibrox on loan next season.

A proposed £3million offer has been discussed between representatives of both clubs, with Rafael Benitez keen to bring the 18-year-old to Anfield in a bid to boost his defensive ranks.

Earlier this month Rangers chief executive Martin Bain revealed that Liverpool were the forerunners for the Scotland under-19 international.

Wilson is currently injured after straining a muscle in a bounce game with Old Firm rivals Celtic on Wednesday night but doubts over his future remain with only 14 months remaining on his current contract with the SPL champions-elect.

Gers boss Walter Smith is understood to be reluctant to let the centre-back leave the club with Madjid Bougherra expected to attract lucrative bids on the back of his appearance for Algeria in this summer's World Cup and David Weir tipped to retire after turning 40 next month.
