The Super Cup final lived up to expectations as Liverpool and Chelsea went toe to toe in the final at Istanbul. The Blues who were reeling from the 4-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester United came with a point to prove and dominated the first half.

New signing Christian Pulisic showed why he is regarded as one of the brightest young talents with a dominant display. His assist for the first goal was class and Giroud duly buried it to give Chelsea the lead.

However, Liverpool front three have proven over time that they are arguably the best forward pairing in the world. Klopp made the halftime choice to bring in Roberto Firmino and it paid immediate dividends.

The Brazilian was at the heart of the equalizer making the move that saw Senegal forward Sadio Mane score an easy tap in. The game went into extra time with both teams unable to find the winner for 90 minutes.

However, this only brought quality attacking football as Firmino once again was the provider for Mane who duly finished aplomb beyond the despairing Kepa in goal.

Not quite long after the goal, there was drama as referee Farappart pointed to the spot after a foul on Tammy Abraham by Adrian. The replays suggested that it was a soft penalty.Italian ace Jorginho stepped forward and calmly sent Adrian the wrong way with a cool penalty.

Some few minutes Abraham missed a setter before the game headed to penalties. Both teams were perfect from the spot until Tammy Abraham stepped forward for the last penalty which was saved by Adrian. This led to wide celebrations from the bench with manager Jurgen Klopp leading the charge.

Jordan Henderson lifted the trophy and as joined Rangers manager Steven Gerard in the select list of Liverpool captains to have lifted the Super Cup title.
